Overview

Boulder, Colorado is a unique and quirky little town full of paradox. Boulderites (also known as Boulderitts, or Boulderots, depending on context) are liberal, educated and enlightened, and simultaneously intolerant, oblivious and self-centered. The average Boulderite looks homeless while actually being fabulously well-to-do.

The story

That's So Boulder! follows a group of friends living in Boulder who, on the surface, look like your average crowd hunting for conversation and coffee at their local hangout.

A deeper dive reveals the quirky personalities of Boulderites who will do just about anything to avoid coming face-to-face with the real world, and the boring details of life without a trust fund.

The setting

Everything happens at the Coffee Pot Café & Dispensary, the local hangout owned by Margaret, granddaughter of a 19th-century Denver gold-mining baron. At the Coffee Pot, bravado is the verbal currency: everyone talks about things that no one ever actually does.

But talk isn't always cheap. The least expensive coffee in Boulder costs $9.99.

Meet the Boulderites

• Chip – New to Boulder. He brought his successful business to town and keeps trying to fight "being Boulder." He even eats non-organic meat, and isn't afraid to let people watch.
• Taylor – Born and raised in "the Canyon." A punk-rock hippie with a band who claims to be an interior designer. Big plans, zero actual work.
• Grant – The golden child of Boulder. He says he's in real estate but has yet to sell a house.
• Russell – Loves Boulder, but Boulder doesn't love him back. He has money but can never seem to win, and may be in love with Margaret.
• Margaret – Owner of the Coffee Pot. Plays the tie-dye-wearing Boulder hippie, but secretly has her tycoon grandfather's ruthless business sense.
• Norman – A poet-philosopher entirely under Margaret's thumb, prone to quoting great historical figures at inappropriate times. He calls her "Momzy." Nobody knows why.
• Gordon – Taylor's father, a wealthy landowner and banker who has no patience for Taylor's friends, with the possible exception of Grant.
• Bethany – Grant's high-flying, quasi-aristocratic, super-hippie mother, who in one way or another controls most everything in town.
• The Furies – An inseparable trio of Boulder matriarchs who really run the town. One is married to the Mayor, and acts accordingly.

A taste of the film: "The Adulting"

New in town, Chip meets Grant at the Coffee Pot to talk about buying a home. The problem: Grant doesn't seem to know anything about real estate. "I don't know why I called you," Chip complains. "It's because I look like Boulder," Grant replies.

Pressed further, Grant explains: "Look, I've been awake for two hours and fifteen minutes, and in that time I've had to answer two emails, listen to a voice message and take this meeting. I had to pay my own internet bill. I mean, I have been doing nothing but adulting all day."
